Welcome to the Alzheimer Açores Association – alza.
It is with immense pride and a sense of purpose that I welcome you to our digital space. The launch of this website marks a vital step towards bringing alza closer to everyone in the Azores, building a bridge of support and information accessible across all the islands of our archipelago.
Dementia represents one of the greatest health and social challenges of our time. Behind every diagnosis is a person with their own story, dignity and emotional bonds, as well as a family and carers who face uncertainty, exhaustion and the need to adapt every day.
At alza, we firmly believe that no one should walk this path alone. Our association was founded with a clear purpose:
- Support and empower: Offer guidance, specialist information and practical tools to people with dementia, carers and families.
- Raise Awareness and Dispel Myths: Break down the stigma surrounding dementia, fostering a more inclusive and informed Azorean society.
- Train and Empower: Invest in ongoing training for professionals, informal carers and the wider community.
- Defend Rights: Be an active voice in safeguarding the dignity and rights of people with dementia.
This website aims to be more than a source of information: we want it to be a safe haven. Here you will find useful resources, news about our projects, ways to access support and direct contact details for whenever you need to speak with us.
Building a more supportive future, better prepared to respond to dementia in the Azores, depends on the collective efforts of everyone — members, volunteers, healthcare professionals, and public and private partners. I invite you to explore these pages, discover our work and join us in this cause.
Together, we turn memory into affection and challenges into hope.
With warmest wishes,
Berta Mª Raposo Pimentel Cabral do Couto
President of the Board of the Alzheimer Açores Association – alza
