The Legislative Assembly of the Autonomous Region of the Azores approved Resolution No. 13/2026, which recommends that the Regional Government strengthen the public response to Alzheimer's disease and other dementias in the Azores. The proposal, an initiative of the Socialist Party/Azores Parliamentary Group, was presented by MP Marlene Damião and included the collaboration of alza. This is an important step that helps give visibility to the challenges faced by people with dementia and their families, promoting greater public and institutional attention to this reality.
The resolution focuses on four main areas: the promotion of health surveys and epidemiological studies to support public policies; support for scientific research projects in this field, in collaboration with the University of the Azores; ensuring coordination between health units, municipalities and Private Social Solidarity Institutions, in particular alza, with a view to creating an integrated and decentralised support network that values proximity and continuity of care; and finally, the promotion of public awareness and information campaigns.
We welcome this recommendation and hope it will provide significant momentum for the adoption of practical measures that continue to promote the well-being of people and families.
