alza joined the project "Holy Spirit Rooms: Memory, Community and Heritage" promoted by the Carlos Machado Museum, in collaboration with four associations/schools from the island of S. Miguel. This is a tradition that recreates a chapel in a room of the house.
The project began with a talk led by Paulo Moura, a master's student in Management and Enhancement of Historical and Cultural Heritage who has dedicated himself to the study of this theme, and by Maria João Silveira, cultural mediator at the Museum, who contextualised the history and evolution of the Holy Spirit rooms.
Building on this starting point, clients took part in workshops to create decorative elements for the recreation of a Holy Spirit room. The work was assembled into a wooden structure, symbolising the traditional "room". In this way, this symbol of Azorean culture and heritage, linked to the experience of faith, is celebrated.
The piece was part of a travelling exhibition displayed at different venues in Ponta Delgada between 9 July and 19 August, including Ponta Delgada Town Hall, the Carlos Machado Museum – Santo André Centre (former gatehouse), and Parque Atlântico Shopping Centre.
